Visit to The Island Maternity Home
05/11/2024
On Tuesday the 5th of November, 2024, a few prefects of the secondary section of The Lagoon School, alongside our mothers and some members of staff set out to visit the Lagos Island Maternity Home(LIMH). This visit aimed to financially assist some nursing mothers who recently gave birth but could not be discharged due to a lack of adequate funds to settle their bills.
Funded by our recent Mufti Day in the Primary and Secondary Sections of the school, we were able to make a tangible difference in the lives of these families. Specifically, we paid the bills of 5 mothers who had recently given birth, enabling them to be discharged from the hospital and reunite with their loved ones.
The prefects were taken on a tour of the hospital to see the patients’ living conditions. At the maternity ward, we saw some of the mothers.
This eye-opening experience not only deepened our appreciation for good health and loved ones but also reinforced the school’s motto: “Wisdom and Virtue.”
In the Lagoon School, we focus on a virtue every month, which we try to practice in specific ways. This month, we are focusing on the virtue of gratitude, and this outreach project was the perfect embodiment of this virtue. We are proud to have made a positive impact and can’t wait to continue spreading love and kindness throughout our community! “A small act of kindness can change a life.”
This was definitely an impactful experience, and I believe I can speak for everyone when I say that we can’t wait to do more wonderful things for the good and benefit of our society.
